Diana

Diana by Josephine Wall

13th Week of Summer, Goddess of the week

This article is part of the Goddesses for Every Season Journey I have decided to take and I am following the book Goddesses for Every Season by Nancy Blair. A year long Journey to meet a different Goddess a week.

Diana is the Goddess of the hunt, the wild and the underworld. She is a Moon Goddess and her name in Latin means ‘Goddess of light and of the moon’. The phases of the moon are seen as Diana transitioning the light into dark and back again. Birth, death and rebirth.

Although she is a Maiden Goddess due to swearing she would not marry and claiming chastity, she is also a Goddess that helps with fertility and childbirth. Women would pray to her to help them fall pregnant and have an easy childbirth. Diana protects mothers and children and was also known as Lucina.

Diana will help you love your self and be free and wild. She will help you to look deep within and not judge yourself or compare yourself to others, for you are enough and worthy. Helping you to self care and love yourself completely, she will show you the cycle of death and rebirth through going deeper and deeper within, facing your truths and letting go to become a better, stronger and more happier you.

Meditation to connect with Diana

Roman fresco of Diana hunting, 4th century AD, from the Via Livenza hypogeum in Rome.

Put on some relaxing music and get comfortable.  Take three deep breaths, relaxing your whole body. Hold your intention in connecting to Diana. You could say this in your head three times, ‘My intention is to connect with Diana the Goddess of the Hunt.’

Imagine you are in a grove of big Oak trees. It is dark as its night and looking up you can see the clear night sky with all the stars twinkling. The crescent moon is there too and as you look more closely at it you can she there is a woman there and that the moon is actually her bow. You also notice there are animals with her too up there. She then looks down at you and smiles. ‘Hello Dear One. I am Diana, Goddess of the hunt and the moon. I rule the sky and the forests and look after all the animals, plants and trees. Come up here and I will show you.’ You then start floating up towards her. When you reach her, she takes your hand and takes you on a journey.

Once your journey finishes and you have spoken to her. You thank Diana and she leaves you in the grove. When you are ready, take three deep breaths and come back to the room.

Write down your experience. What was she like? What journey did she take you on? Did she have a message for you? Did she answer your questions? What were the animals that surrounded her?

My Journey with Diana

Listening to some drumming as I usually do I asked for Diana to connect with me. I first saw sparkles which turned into a moon. I the saw a dragonfly, flying fast and going all over the place. I then saw a lady, with a bow shooting arrows which turned into shooting stars in the night sky. Diana spoke to me. She said ‘I am you. I am the keeper of stars. Hunt down your goals and dreams like the hunter I am. Seeing them and going for them at the right moments. Practice. Look deep within for your shadows, for they are part of you. You need to accept them to become whole. Life is a cycle and has cycles in it. You go from birth to life to death and then rebirth constantly. Your menstrual cycle is continuous, listen to your body and note what is happening in each part of your cycle. Use a moon chart to pay attention and get to know the changes in you.’ I saw her in her chariot riding across the sky. I thanked her and that was the end of my meeting with her.

Diana is here to help you hunt down your dreams and goals. To help you look at your shadows and to accept them. To help you in the constant cycles of life just as she goes through the phases of the moon. Call on her when you need help with change and becoming the better you and she will be there by your side helping you along the way.
