Selene

3rd Week of Summer, Goddess of the week

This article is part of the Goddesses for Every Season Journey I have decided to take and I am following the book Goddesses for Every Season by Nancy Blair. A year long Journey to meet a different Goddess a week.

Selene by Linda Kindt

Selene/Selena, one of the Titan Goddesses, daughter of Theia and Hyperion and sister to Eos and Helios. Known as Luna by the Romans. She is essentially a Moon Goddess and gets associated with Artemis. However she is the only Goddess that is considered the Moon itself. She rides a chariot across the sky pulled by white horses, but has been known also to be pulled by horned cows/oxen.

Selene, as the Moon Goddess represents everything moon related. She is the Goddess of the Lunar cycle, blood cycle/Woman mysteries, the flow and ebb of the waters and life blood. Helping to manifest your desires and to connect to your feminine wisdom.

Meditation to connect with Selene

Light a candle, put a oil diffuser or incense and some relaxing music, sit and close your eyes. Take three deep breaths and relax. Hold your intention in connecting to Selene, the Moon Goddess. You could say this in your head three times, ‘My intention is to connect with Selene.’

Moon Goddess by Josephine Wall

Imagine you are in a forest and its night time. Although its dark, the full moon is bright and lights up a path. You start to walk this path between the trees, making your way gradually, noticing the sound of owls and rustles in the bushes. The path takes you to a circular clearing surrounded by trees and the full moon is directly above you shining down.

You feel this is where Selene will be, so you decide to stand under the full moon, close your eyes and soak up its beautiful cleansing energy. As you are doing this, you hear a voice say ‘Welcome Child, I have been expecting you.’ You open your eyes and see a beautiful woman is standing in front of you. It is Selene. You say hello and thank her for connecting. She smiles and embraces you. So full of love and light, she starts to talk to you.

Take this time to listen to what she has to say and to ask any questions.

Once you have finished communicating, you thank her. She says ‘ You are welcome child. I am always here for you to connect. Remember I am the Moon, anytime you feel you need me, look to the Moon and know I am here with you.’ She embraces you once more and then floats up towards the Moon and disappears into the light.

Feeling peaceful and when you are ready, take three deep breaths and come back to the room.

Write down your experience. What did she say to you? Did she have a message? Did she answer all your questions? Did anything else happen?

My Journey with Selene

As usual I drummed a journey. I met my Power animal and she took me to a tree. She told me to sit and call Selene three times, which I did. A beautiful woman appeared. She was small, blonde and long flowing hair and wore a white wavy gown. She looked Faery like to me. She said ‘You called?’ I said said yes, I wished to connect to you and get to know you more. She said I am the Mother, I look after all, I am the Moon and the Sun, the Ocean and the Earth.’ She then took my hand and we floated above the world. She told me to look at the beautiful Earth and that we need to look after her just as she looks after us. We must come together, not fight. She said start with yourself. Heal yourself, look within, when you heal yourself, you help others. You help the world. You will become healthier and happier. If everyone just worked on their own issues, helped themselves to heal, the world would be a better place. We then floated back down and I thanked her and she disappeared.

This was a quick journey, but her message was powerful.

Heal yourself and you heal the world.

I have been working on myself for a while now and I have resolved issues and its made me a better person for doing it. Working on yourself is a life long journey as we will always pick up things as we go along in life. But wanting to really look at your issues and not run away from them is a start. When we can finally take the courage to look at our issues, our shadows, we will then start to heal them. There are many techniques and things we can do and we will all be different in our approach. You need to try different things and see what works for you. For me it is Shamanism mostly. I was always drawn to this path and I tried different things, such as talks and workshops. Then I did a healing weekend which showed me how powerful this work is, especially using a drum. I admit it scared me a bit. After that weekend I was a bit weary of doing anything like it for a while, but that was because I was not ready to face my shadow. I knew it was the path for me though. I still attended spiritual workshops etc and I work a lot with the Angels as well, which is a bit more of a gentler energy. But didn’t want to do another weekend like that just yet. Then one day, I was ready to face my shadow and my fears and I went to some more stay over weekends, attended a Shamanic Practitioners Course, which helped me heal issues and look at my shadow as well as give me knowledge and experience of how to help others and a week long Shamanic residential, once again helping me to heal issues, look at my shadow and give me experience and knowledge of how to help others. I do not regret doing any of that, because it really has helped me and like I said I am a better person for it. I continue to work on myself and yes sometimes I lose my way, but always get back on the right path again. After all life is a journey and its the experiences that help us to learn along the way.
