12th Week of Spring, Goddess of the week
This article is part of the Goddesses for Every Season Journey I have decided to take and I am following the book Goddesses for Every Season by Nancy Blair. A year long Journey to meet a different Goddess a week.
Vila is the Eastern European name for Goddess energy moving through Earth as Nature. The Vila (or Vily (plural)) are Balkan Goddesses (or faeries) who live deep inside the Woods, Mountains and Clouds and are very protective of the earth, animals, insects, birds, plants and trees. They are usually born in the Spring in the misty rains. Rainbows are a sign when a Vila is born. They do not take kindly to disrespect or disrespect of the earth and living creatures and will do anything to protect them. They have the power to heal or destroy, rewarding those who respect and help them and punishing those who do not.
They are the most beautiful women, yet not human, like the Faery folk, Nature Spirits. They are strong with bright golden hair and moon bright skin. Warrior huntresses, protective, healing and yet destructive depending on what is called for. Shape shifters, they can turn into animals and commonly will turn into horses, swans, snakes and falcons and also into whirlwinds, clouds and mist. They love to dance, play and be mischief and one must be careful not to be lured into a dance of near death, especially if they have been seen as disrespectful.
The Vila know everything about healing and herb craft and can teach you these things also but you must earn your way to these secrets and form a bond with them. Earning their trust, communing with them and showing your respect. If you wish to learn from them, then you will be required to form a pact, which would normally be by going into the woods at sunrise on the day of the full moon. Drawing a circle in the dirt with a birch or broom, calling to the Vila and listening for her reply. Once you have been accepted, they will grant you any wish. But beware for making a pact with the Vila is a serious thing and should not be taken lightly. You must be committed, to have them in your life and not take them for granted. When you accept them into your life and respect them, you will learn much.

Meditation to connect to the Vila
Find a quiet spot, being in the woods would be great, but anywhere that you will not be disturbed will do. Light a candle, some incense, sit, close your eyes and relax. Take three deep breathes. Set your intention to connect with the Vila. Say to yourself, ‘My intention is to connect to the Vila.’ and repeat three times.
Imagine you are on the edge of a forest. The sun is shining, its a prefect Spring day. The trees are tall and it looks a little dark in there, but you see a opening and you start to walk into the forest on the path you see. Going deeper and deeper, it gets a little more darker as you go. You see animals along the way, watching you.
You then come to a clearing, a circle of trees and in the middle is a waterfall and pool of crystal clear water. You approached the pool and sit by it. Looking around you, you see how magical this place is, you sense its very special. You then notice an animal coming towards you, what is it? You get the sense they have been watching you from afar and now they are approaching you. Suddenly it turns into a beautiful bright skinned woman. She says to you ‘I am Vila. I am not the only one, there are more of us, but I am the one who has come to greet you.’ You say hello and thank her for connecting. She then starts to talk to you.
Talk to her, get to know her. What does she say? Ask her any questions and see if she will reveal the answers.
After a while and when you are finished talking and connecting, she disappears. You look all around you to see where she went but she has vanished completely. You thank her for connecting and make your way back to where you started.
When you are ready, take three deep breaths and come back to the room.
Write down your experience. What animal was it that greeted you? What do they mean to you? You can look up there meaning as it might be of some sufficient. What message did she have for you? Did she answer your questions? What else happened?
My Journey with the Vila
I started at my Oak tree and made my way down deep into the Earth. My Power Animal was there to greet me and she took me to a place where I was to meet the Vila. Making our way through a forest and into a clearing of trees, in the middle a beautiful pool and waterfall. She told me to sit and wait and left me alone. I sat for some time and animals started to gather around me. Lots of different ones and there were a couple I took note of. A butterfly landed on me and I had the feeling it was watching and observing, like all the animals but this one in particular. I waited a while and then the animals started to leave and it turned to night, with the full moon bright above me, shining its light brightly. The butterfly flew to the middle of the pool, hovering above it, turned into a beautiful, bright skinned, blonde/white haired woman. She was cloaked but shining bright. Then there were two either side of her. They revealed themselves from under their cloaks and they looked like each other but different ages. The middle one said ‘We are the Vila. There are many more of us, but we represent, Maiden, Mother and Crone.’ I said hello and thanked them for connecting. She then said ‘We look after the earth, animals, insects, birds, plants and trees. Protecting them from human destruction. They are all looked after individually. You can help by looking after the environment, recycle, re-use things and have as little waste as possible. If you see some rubbish, pick it up. You will have to earn your way to get to know us. We can teach you to connect more with Nature, to each thing. To connect to the wisdom of the Earth. Learn from the trees, the animals, listen. Now be gone.’ They disappeared. My Power Animal was there once more to take me back.
I found it hard to connect to the Vila and they were quite dark. But like they said, I have to earn my way to connect with them. I didn’t know anything about them, until now and I did my journey before researching. I like to do this so I get confirmations that I really did connect! Finding out in my research that they will dance you to near death if you disrespect or cause death to their family to punish you, shows they have a darkness, which I felt and that you have to make a pact with them and connection for them to reveal their secrets, which explains why I found it hard to connect and their message in my Journey too.
They may have a darkness, but they also have light. They are balance, they heal and can destroy, just like the Great Goddess creating life but then can destroy as well. We all have light and dark and dark doesn’t mean bad. The dark can reveal things to you the light can not, it can help you heal and let go, face your fears and become who you truly are. It is all about balance and darkness is apart of that.
I will try to spend more time this week connecting to the Vila and in future. I need to think/feel if its something I wish to be apart of. If I wish to connect more with them and learn from them I will have to commit and as this is a serious commitment it should not be taken lightly. I firmly believe these things should not be messed with and therefore you should be sure that you have time and you want to be committed when making a pact. It will change your life in wonderful ways, but you must have the commitment and willingness as you have to respect these things and not take them for granted.
I want to also just let you know about the pictures I have used in this blog. The first two of the fairies called to me as the one of the Rainbow Fairies went with the story of when you see a rainbow it means a Vila has been born and the second called to me as they are associated with the moon and I saw them under the full moon in my journey. The last one by Pranile spoke to me the most as it is the closest to how I saw them on my journey. It also reveals their darker mysterious side. I have linked them all to the sites I found them on and credit to the artists.
I hope you found this information helpful for your connection with the Vila. If you would like to have more information I have listed at the bottom a list of resources for you to read.
